We all plan to do something extraordinary and revolutionize the world when we are mere students. However, the realities of the world knock us down a few pegs, and we have a hard time adulting. Not Mr. PK and C, though. This dynamic duo made plans and revisited them to make something of themselves. Let’s delve deeper into their stories.
A scenario with five college friends making plans to invent something cool might sound familiar to you. But Mr. Premanth Kundurthi and Mr. Chaitanya decided to quit their well-paying jobs and slip into the serene void of the laundering industry.
While Premanth worked in packaging after his studies, Chaitanya decided to pursue MBA and later joined NISSAN. The remaining three friends all decided to move to Germany for higher studies.
In an exclusive interview with The Little Text, Mr. Premanth stated, ” I always remember a story my father told me when I was in 5th grade. He wanted to teach me to be independent while wanting to do something told me a story of a farmer and a tree. The farmer sees that the tree is causing a problem to his harvest but always asks other people to do it. This behavior is noticed by a pigeon residing in the tree. It’s not worried about it as it knows other people won’t do the job, but the pigeon flees as soon as the farmer decides to chop it down”. The story was simple but effective in teaching me that things won’t get done unless I do them myself or supervise the task”.

During their yearly meets, Premanth and Chaitanya decided to venture into the laundry business. Still, they made the wise decision to keep their day jobs and research the industry for over a year. In Dec 2015, PK decided to quit his job and start prototyping his laundry service named PKC Laundries in a gated community on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Within a year, they had expanded to seven such communities with their stellar service, mainly due to word of mouth. They decided to start a physical store and invested in machinery while researching the best ways to handle clothes of different fabric types and stains. They provide services such as wash and iron, dry cleaning, rolling and polishing, thus providing a one-stop solution for all their laundering needs.
Their business was progressing but not growing at the desired pace, so they decided to network to promote it. Soon, they struck gold when at a Novotel event, they met a resort owner who gave them their first big break and became well-known in the B2B industry. They also got the opportunity to partner with a well-known hotel chain. But they would soon face what made us all feel helpless; COVID -19.
They were hit hard and had to modify their business model to accept smaller orders again. They didn’t shy away from accepting orders that caused them more harm than gain. They focused on building a solid client relationship. Post-COVID, their orders multiplied, and they soon started franchising. They now have six stores with dedicated employees. Their future scope is to go digital and build a franchise under the PKC brand. They also want to expand into real estate and have invested in a few startups.
